Summer In Morzine

The French Alps resort close to Geneva is open for summer activites.  With quarantine-free travel expected to open up from the UK soon, we look at what you can do in Morzine.

At the start of June the French Alps began easing its lockdown.

Restaurants, cafes and bars have all re-opened, albeit with reduced capacity and new sanitary measures.

Morzine is a fabulous proper French alpine town full of character on the French-Swiss border in the Portes du Soleil.

You could do worse than choose it for your first holiday to the mountains post lockdown.

It has some great biking terrain, there’s paragliding, rock climbing, golf, fishing, horse riding and canyoning.

NEW – Hike, Fish and Frolic

The doors are open at the Refuge de Nyon, a traditional mountain chalet next to the Nyon Guérin Lake and with spectacular views of the mountains.

There’s an an easy walk, suitable for families, from the top of the Nyon gondola and trout fishing for experts and novices alike, with equipment provided by the refuge.

The restaurant’s owner, Betty, will even prepare and cook your fresh catches.

The Refuge de Nyon is open from 25th June to 6th September 2020.

NEW – Downhill Mountain Bike Trails

Morzine is known to mountain bikers for its high-quality trails.

This year, two more downhill trails have been added to the already large network on offer across the Portes du Soleil.

The new red downhill trail, leaving from the top of Pléney and descending to the village centre, close to lifts, uses the run that was created exclusively for the French Championships in 2018. It is 3 km long with 500 metres of descent.

The new blue run ensures an easy and safe link back to Morzine from Les Gets, avoiding roads.

The mountain bike trails are open from 27th June to 20th September 2020.

How much? A day’s mountain biking lift pass for the Portes du Soleil area costs from €29/£26 per adult and €22/£19 per child.

Multi Pass

The multi pass gives access to more than 50 activities in the Portes du Soleil for €2/£1.80 per day.

The attractions in the region that are covered by the pass include swimming in pools and lakes, tennis, cultural sites, ice rinks and mini-golf courses.

Walkers can use the pass to use lifts throughout the region, including routes around the Nyon peak.

The multi pass also gives a substantial discount at many more locations, with savings on bike rentals, paragliding, archery, clay pigeon shooting, spa treatments, yoga and more.
