World Class Snowsports Action In New Zealand

There’s not much of it around so it’s great to see some fabulous photos and video footage coming out of New Zealand. The Obsidian team event that is replacing the 2020 Winter Games NZ looks like it’s delivering.

The coronavirus pandemic prevented international snowsports athletes from travelling to New Zealand this year so there was no chance of the country staging what is usually the first World Cup of the season for freestylers.

Instead, the Winter Games NZ became Obsidian – a team contest featuring New Zealand’s best skiers, snowboarders and videographers.

The start of the event went ahead despite some disruption as resorts briefly closed following new cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.

The images that have been released so far of the various stages of the competition are too good to ignore, so here are some of them, along with a video edit of the heli freeride day.

Enjoy.

The video below of the freeride heli day was posted on the Winter Games NZ Facebook page.

Footage is by Diaries Downunder, Jase Hancox, Two Bearded Men, 208 Media.
